No Fits Nilson News

Received this comp up of the No Fits, Nilson! cover yesterday. Super excited to see this book come together. Also they asked me to give a story about my inspiration for the book in some form for the marketing team. So I sent this little comparsion chart.

The marketing team thought this was pretty funny and asked me to do a more kid friendly version for the catalogue. So I did this one.
The book won't be out until next June so it will be nice to see the catalogue when it comes out. And in case you aren't a Mighty Boosh fan, the "Jazz Trance" is a reference to this.

JUST LIKE BULLIT

All this freezing, grey weather is getting me down. I keep thinking about that Stones song "Winter" from Goats Head Soup,  "I wish I was out in California, when all the lights on the Christmas trees are out."
And I've been staring at this, little bit of the Bay Area on a balmy afternoon.

HUGS NOT DRUGS

I just received the custom postage I ordered from Zazzle.com. Actually, I ordered it THREE TIMES and they cancelled it each time. Apparently they have people that view the stamps and if they find something they think is inappropriate they cancel it.
Someone thought that a pipe smoking gorilla was some kind of drug reference and they cancelled it THREE TIMES! I had to call and explain that it's for children's picture books and have someone review it again before they would approve it!

I like how they came out, but I'm looking for some other source for custom postage. Anyone know of a good one?

I feel like it's raining all over the world

I received a couple really cool calendar/organizer/sketchbooks from a good friend and talented designer Kimberly Glyder

I'm attempting to fill them with little bits of sketch awesomeness. Or at least, something moderately pretty. Here's the first few, no pencil marks, just brush and pen to paper with zero planning.

ZOOM

Just before the holiday I did a quick spot for Philadelphia Magazine. It was an article on using existing Amtrack tracks for a train that would take people to the zoo. I was kind of hoping they would use the gorilla contemplating the train car ala a friendly King Kong, but I'm happy with the way it came out.
Thanks to AD's Jesse Southerland and Andy Zahn for a fun assignment.

MONSTERS OF FOLK

Just sent off a really fun project. A poster for the Monsters of Folk. A little nod to Williamsburg in that I decided to draw the Billyburg bridge in there instead of the usual Brooklyn Bridge shot.
Free signed poster to the first person who can tell me which controversial landmark building is also pictured. Congrats to Elissa of Brooklyn, she guessed the correct answer THE DOMINO SUGAR FACTORY. Poster is in the mail.

The poster is to be hand silk screened by Kayrock in Brooklyn. I will have some up for sale on my site soon.
